Holden the universal teenager

Holden goes through a lot of the same things every other teenager goes through in their life. Holden fights with himself about growing up and staying an innocent child. " The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it's bad if you say anything to them." (Salinger 211) It is just the same as Holden life he just needs to reach out like all of us teenagers do and grow up. We all have that fear of losing our innocent and taking our step towards independence expecially senior year with thnk about leaving for college and moving out of our parents house. It is a huge leap for Holden like kids with the golden ring and everyother teenager.

Holden also fight with the pressure of sex as you get into teenage year. Ever teenager goes through this too. When a realtionship hits a certain stage girls feel like they have to and so do guys. Guys feel like if they don't all his guys friends will look down on them. Girls feel if they dont they will lose their boyfriends. This also happens with Holden in the sceen with the prositute and through out the book. "Look I said. I don't feel very much like myself tonight..... I'll pay you and all, but do you mind much if we don't do it?" (Salinger 97) It shows he feel pressured to do so, but he really doesn't want to. Every teenager goes through this too. Holden is the universal teenager.

The War

In "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kessey there is a war between Big Nurse and McMurphy over what is better for the ward. In my oppinon I think McMurphy is more powerful then Big Nurse and really has the best intrested in the patients. I think McMurphy is more powerfully then the Nurse because in the end they all follow him. For an example when McMurphy revotes for the baseball game everyone votes for it and when Big Nurse turns off the power to the tv they all sit there and stare at it with him even Cheif. Nurse reaction to this in the book is " I said, Mr. McMurphy, that you are suppose to be workign duting these hours." Her voice has a tight whine like an electric saw ripping through pine. "Mr.McMurphy, I'm warning you!" (Kesey 127) This just shows McMurphy's power over the Nurse.

McMurphy also has more of a cure for the patients then the Big Nurse. For example Big Nurse just puts fear in the men takes their masculinty away. McMurphy is described Big Nurse as taking the men's masculinty he says " Right at your balls. No, that nurse ain't some kinda monster chicken, buddy, what she is a ball-cutter." (Kesey 57) This just shows how she put the man down. While McMurphy gets to laugh and joke which is healing to the soul. Also at the end of the book McMurphy influences all the men to leave the ward and move out with their lives. "After Harding signed out and was picked up by his wife, and George transferred to a diffrent ward, just three of us were left out of the group who had been on the fishing trip, myself, and Martini and Scalon." (Kesey 269). McMurphy has a be impact on the guys and changes alot in them.

Why the legend lives on

The Arthurian legend is basically the first sopa oprea every created. It have love, war, and chivlary all in one. The ledgen also has magic to it and can bring out anyones inner child. I think for these reason it has lived on for many years. We all enjoy the entertainment and joy that the stories bring to us.

The one flim that brings out the kid in everyone is The Sword and The Stone. The Sword and The Stone has the magic of Merlin. How he changes into animals and how Arthur is just a young boy and pulls the sword out of the stone. In the sword in the stone Arthur and Merlin talk about him pulling out the sword "Arthur: I'm in an awful pickle. I'm king! Archimedes the Owl: He pulled the sword from the stone. Merlin: Ha ha! Of course, of course. King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Arthur: Round table? Merlin: Oh, would you rather have a square one? Arthur: Oh, no. Round will be fine." (The Sword and The Stone) The story gives off fun and jokes that can be taken from it.

Another thing in the Arthurian Ledgen that keeps it living on is the chivlary. For example in "Sir Gawain and the Lady Ragnell" Sir Gawain marrys Lady Ragnell despite what she looke like to save King Arthurs life. He also treats Lady Ragnell like anyother lady despite her looks. He is a gentelman and treats her right. "Throughout the long day and evening, Gawain rremained pleasant and courteous. Not once did his manner toward his strange bride show other than kind attention." ("Sir Gawain and Laday Ragnell") This shows chivlary to his king and bride. I think this is part of the reason the story lives on because every lady would love to be treated that way no matter what they look like.

Also the romance in the Arthurian ledgen also helps it live on. For example with Gewnivere falling in love with Sir Lancelot when she is married to Arthur give the story the romance and twist of a sopa oprea. Also in The Lady of Shallot it shows how many women are in love with Sir Lancelot and would die for him, but his heart only belongs to one laday Gewnivere. "Heard a carol, mournful, holy, chante loudly, chanted lowly till her blood frozen slowly, and her eyes were datkened wholly." (The Lady of Shallot) It shows how in love the Lady of Shallot was with Sir Lancelot that she was willing to kill herself.

There are many reason the ledgen lives on. It has humor charctertics and brings out the child in everyone. It also show chivlary which women love to read about how a night saved a lady. Romance is also a big part and the twist in romance which makes it just like a sopa oprea keeps out intrest as to what will happen next. The ledgen keeps your intrest.

King Arthur's stories

I have enjoyed reading the King Arthur stories. I enjoy the magic that are put into the stories. When I was little one of my favorite movies was The Sword and The Stone. I as we get older we start to not appericate our imaganation as much as we did when we were little. I use to love the magic in The Sword and The Stone and these stories are bringing back great memories.
My favorite story so far has been Sir Gawain and The Lady Ragnell. I like this because at first of course I though the answer to what does a lady want would be love, but then when the answer turned out to be sovereignty I though that this was very true. I think everyone wants to have that free will but ecspecially women begin put down by their husbands for years. I also like that Sir Gawain treats Lady Ragnell like a lady even when she is beautiful because ever girl wants to be treated right. "Throughout the long day and evening, Gawain reminded pleasant and courteous. Not once did his manner toward his stranfe bride show othe than kind attention."This is what evry girl wants to be treated like no matter who they are and that is why i liked the story so much.
