The War

In "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kessey there is a war between Big Nurse and McMurphy over what is better for the ward. In my oppinon I think McMurphy is more powerful then Big Nurse and really has the best intrested in the patients. I think McMurphy is more powerfully then the Nurse because in the end they all follow him. For an example when McMurphy revotes for the baseball game everyone votes for it and when Big Nurse turns off the power to the tv they all sit there and stare at it with him even Cheif. Nurse reaction to this in the book is " I said, Mr. McMurphy, that you are suppose to be workign duting these hours." Her voice has a tight whine like an electric saw ripping through pine. "Mr.McMurphy, I'm warning you!" (Kesey 127) This just shows McMurphy's power over the Nurse.

McMurphy also has more of a cure for the patients then the Big Nurse. For example Big Nurse just puts fear in the men takes their masculinty away. McMurphy is described Big Nurse as taking the men's masculinty he says " Right at your balls. No, that nurse ain't some kinda monster chicken, buddy, what she is a ball-cutter." (Kesey 57) This just shows how she put the man down. While McMurphy gets to laugh and joke which is healing to the soul. Also at the end of the book McMurphy influences all the men to leave the ward and move out with their lives. "After Harding signed out and was picked up by his wife, and George transferred to a diffrent ward, just three of us were left out of the group who had been on the fishing trip, myself, and Martini and Scalon." (Kesey 269). McMurphy has a be impact on the guys and changes alot in them.
